Welcome to UCLA/Olive View-UCLA Emergency Medicine!

Established in 1978 at the UCLA Medical Center, the residency incorporated Olive View-UCLA Medical Center as its second major training site in 1985. The program combines the benefits of training at an internationally renowned university hospital and a large academic public hospital. Together the two facilities provide an unusually diverse spectrum of patients and a greater breadth of educational and research opportunities than any single institution.

Research Spotlight

Ann Emerg Med

A UCLA team lead by 2007 graduate, Dr. Gil Shlamovitz, showed that the digital rectal exam should not be used as a screening tool in trauma patients.  In addition, Drs. Sunil Shroff and Fred Abrahamian argue that routine wound cultures are not necessary for superficial skin abscesses.  Read the complete articles in the July 2007 Annals of Emergency Medicine.
